Polyethylene glycol can usually be used as an additive in the field of oilfield chemicals, and it has the following possible functions:
1. Viscosity reducer: During the process of oil well extraction, crude oil often contains high molecular weight wax and gum, which leads to an increase in viscosity, poor flowability, and difficulty in transportation. Polyethylene glycol can reduce the viscosity of crude oil. As a viscosity reducer, it helps improve the flowability of crude oil.
2. Wetting agent: Polyethylene glycol can be used as a wetting agent in drilling and completion fluids to change the wettability of the rock surface, enhance the permeability and cleaning effect of the liquid on the rock, and thus improve the recovery rate.
3. Emulsifier. Among oilfield chemicals, polyethylene glycol can be used as an emulsifier to prepare water in oil or oil in water lotion. These lotion play an important role in oil displacement, workover operations and tertiary oil recovery technologies.
4. As a carrier for slow-release agents, polyethylene glycol can be used as a carrier for slow-release agents. By compounding it with other anti-corrosion components, it can better deliver slow-release agents to the surface of metal pipelines or equipment, reducing the occurrence of corrosion.
5. When preparing various oilfield treatment agents, polyethylene glycol can increase the solubility of certain insoluble or poorly soluble components in aqueous solutions, which helps to formulate efficient and stable additive systems.
Polyethylene glycol is mainly used in oilfield additives to improve fluid performance, enhance production efficiency, and protect equipment.
